Some time ago my cousin or somebody told me this was a good documentary. and for me to download it.

Can I "burn" (if I could learn) and use that DVD in my DVD on my large plasma. Thanks

Yes, I dont see why not.
Why not just attach your laptop to the TV via an HDMI lead and play it through there.
Jennyjoan, it's a drama series not a documentary. It's excellent viewing.

(Can't help with the technicalities, I'm afraid)
One has to be wary if recording on the PC and wanting to play on HiFi type equipment. PCs can read data files on a data disk. HiFi players tend to need specific formats/files so data disks have to be "finished" before HiFi can read them. Probably worth you trying anyway. If you can connect your plasma TV directly to your PC it may not be an issue.

May be useful to know your equipment as to what you intend to read the disk and what it's connected to.
