I wd like to have a window box. Not had one before. Window faces south east. Sheltered most times but gets sea air directly - salty. Any advice folks on plants that wd do alright? Sunny, bright, but air rather saltish. I thought heather and some tough shrubs? But frankly I have no idea at all. Thanks.

Have a play with this: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/search-form I suggest setting 'Garden type' to 'Coastal', 'Planting places' to 'Flower beds and borders' and then adding in whatever else suits you. (You don't have to fill everything in. You can just leave some fields blank or set to 'No preference').

Rosemary should do well in a window box, you can eat it as well.
Livingstone daisy's (Mesembryanthemum)
Sea pinks (Ameria maritima)

Hello. now isthe time to take a stroll! Have a good look round neighbours gardens. I am sure you will make friends too, everyone likes to talk plants if they garden Generally plants with grey leaves tend to thrive. I realise you are talking window boxes, you will need plants that are not too tall as they will be prone to wind damage easily You can lots of fun exprimenting and in the autumn, this will be an ideal place for dwarf bulbs
