some other questions following up to the other ones

1) 20%

bob for chrissakes - do you see a pattern ?

if it x % then you put x on 100 and that is the fraction x/100
Maths for 10 year olds, heh? It really isn't hard, you know ;-)

20% = 20/100. Divide top & bottom by the same number (in this case 20) to give 1/5

88% = 88/100. Divide top and & bottom by 4 to give 22/25

I find that a bit rude
Bobthebandit, take, for example, 20%. That means 20 over 100 as a fraction. Next you think of a number that divides evenly into BOTH 20 and 100. You might pick 2, so 2 into 20 goes 5 times, and 2 into 100 goes 50 times, So, that gives you a new fraction: 5 over 50. But wait a minute, you think, 5 and 50 can BOTH be divided by 5. So five goes into five 1 time, and 5 goes into 50 10 times. therefore you end up with 1/10. Your question about 13% means 13 over 100, and there is no number that divides evenly into BOTH 13 and 100; therefore, 13% is simple 13/100.
SirO and Peter - there is no need for rudeness, never prejudge a poster based on your own expectations of their abilities.
some number followed by a percentage means that you divide by 100 to get the fraction. Thus:

10%=10/100
13%=13/100
15%=15/100

And so on. Then you can look to see if the fraction can be simplified, but the initial conversion from percentage to fraction is literally just to replace "%" by "/100".

To check if a fraction can be simplified you look for numbers that go into both the top and the bottom of that fraction. So for example 10 and 100 both can be divided by 10, with 10/10 = 1 and 100/10 = 10, so that 10/100 = 1/10. Similar rules apply to the rest.
I hope the op is not going by your calculations stewey.

20% is NOT a tenth as a vulgar fraction as you say, but a fifth.
I was trying to be so careful but still messed it up:) Correction: You might pick 2, so 2 into 20 goes 10 times, and 2 into 100 goes 50 times, So, that gives you a new fraction: 10 over 50. But wait a minute, you think, 10 and 50 can BOTH be divided by 10. So 10 goes into 10 1 time, and 10 goes into 50 5 times. therefore you end up with 1/5.

No, you weren't being rude to Stewey, pointing out a mistake but if you are convinced something is a wind up (using your words) in a post then walk away.
A good site, sherrardk. Perhaps I should have used it prior to posting my first answer:)
