Since Ulysses100 is away botanising, I, gen2, am posting the following on his behalf.
---------------------------
Many thanks to gen2 for holding the fort for the past couple of weeks. You go away for a few days and then you come back to see that you are the leader for the month. I last set this over a Christmas period about three years ago so you would think that I would know what to do now, but I’m a little rusty. Then, I gave a potted history of my life which gen2 has been re-offering to you.
Now I am a botanist, which dominates my life, especially at this time of year. I was asked to go out to Jersey to teach a group of local people about grasses, which was a little daunting as I like to prepare in advance, to look at various habitats and to collect specimens. But they were a friendly bunch and we had a good time. I was home for a few days and then off up to Scotland to look at wild flowers in wild places near Aviemore. One day the temperature reached 25 degrees; unheard of! But when slogging your way up a glen it was no picnic. Nonetheless we found some unusual and rare plants. It was also helped by staying in a superb hotel which, I must say, served the widest breakfast choice of any that I have ever stayed in. From your usual full Scottish to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to eggs Benedict.
I am now home for a few days and then I wend my way back north again for a foray to Northumberland. We’ll be visiting Holy Island on the coast and then heading into the Cheviots. I am going to take a day off from the botanising and am looking forward to a day out on the Farne Islands. My other main interest is in bird-watching so I am looking forward to getting up close and personal to some of the birds. I have been warned to take some protective headgear to protect your head from dive-bombing terns. I’ll let you know next weekend how I got on.
