When the owner of this greyhound decided he wanted to get rid of it he cut off its ears, so it couldn't be identified by the markings there, and dumped it by the side of the road. If he's ever caught he should get a lifetime ban from keeping any animal.
Some of the images in the link are described as upsetting.

OMG ,sandy, I wish I hadn't looked :(
I've not looked, but when I was researching getting a greyhound or a lurcher a few years ago,I came across hundreds of upsetting images. Not just from here in the UK,but also from Spain and the US.
Unfortunately these beautiful creatures are considered disposable when they can no longer race. I just read of a rescue dog who'd had bleach or acid poured in her ears in an attempt to remove the tattoo. Its truly sickening.
OMG...he's such a beautiful dog....
I hope he finds a home and love.
I didnt look either, there really are some sick people in this world!!!
At least he survived. The owner should have his ears - and more - removed.
Evil bastard, a lifetime ban and jail as well as the same done to him and more
Its one of the reasons why i am....not against exactly but not for either.....compulsory tattooing and or microchipping of dogs...
And folk wonder why I prefer dogs to people !

There was a sad story about a baby elephant in the Mail on Sunday. I can't tell you what it was about because I couldn't bring myself to read it.

I am feeling bad enough for snarling at Merlin for meowing loudly in my ear and head-butting me. How can people chop off the ears of a dog or chain up a baby elephant?

We should castrate (I will presume that most are male) people capable of such crimes to prevent them breeding a new generation of evil persons.

@woofgang...the tattooing is-in this case-the means by which racing greyhounds are identified. Removing the tattoo destroys any evidence of who that dog belonged to.
Why these idiots can't contact one of the many rescue agencies is beyond me.
I am ashamed to be the same species as that sub-human.
Sandy - I couldn't bear to look either. It is disgraceful. Poor dog.

Greyhounds are quite placid. People who treat animals with cruelty see it as acceptable and it sometimes doesn't stop there (ssadly) - they can be cruel to children too. I hope when caught the punishment reflects the seriousness - its an evil act.
You won't believe this but some people kill animals for food !!!
I can't open the link Sandy, I hope they catch the b@stard.
Woofgang, although despicable acts like this do happen they are extremely rare, and the number of dogs reunited through microchips or tattoos is extremely high. You cannot legislate for cruel or insane people, who will abuse animals no matter what you do. However I would prefer to have mine identified in the hope that they would be returned to me if lost or stolen.
If I ever catch them I'll cut their botox off! (oops suspension coming up)
I meant botox so angry can't write properly
pastafreak and lankeela, I know. My own dogs are microchipped. I just wonder if all dogs are microchipped, whether there will be more barstewards who would hitherto have only dumped the dog, feeling the need to cut out the ID as well.
I have tears in my eyes just thinking about the poor dog. I can't look at the pictures, I hope they catch the human beast and deal with him appropriately.
