I looks like it was part of what is now Liverpool.

I found thisusing Google:
The Liverpool Collegiate School was one of the last great grammar schools in the City of Liverpool but was sadly closed in 1985 resulting primarily from the change in political ideology to favor establishment of a comprehensive system but also as a consequence of  major fire which destroyed the dining hall and all three floors of the galleried assembly hall including the magnificent pipe organ.

The foundation stone of the School was laid on 22nd October 1840 the architect being H.  Lonsdale Elmes who also designed the majestic St. Georges Hall in Liverpool.  The listed school building, on Shaw Street, Liverpool, is currently being converted into luxury flats but the impressive castellated roof line and frontage is preserved and looks as impressive as ever.

Over the years, the school had seen many pupils pass through its corridors and we know that quite a number became Freemasons.  In 1986 some local Old Boys decided to form the ESMEDUNA MASONIC SOCIETY for the Masonic Old Boys of the School; it was not feasible to consider the formation of a lodge as there would be no natural future supply of candidates.  The name 'Esmeduna' was the name of the School magazine and it was derived from the Latin name of an ancient Liverpool Manor that was actually mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
