Been through all reference books and I agree with all of you that it's probably Moscow - I think there must be a typo in the question.

Krakow (or Cracow) isn't a capital, so Moscow was the nearest I could come up with. It does look like a typo.

New York is apparently a hamlet in Lincs, possibly so named because it's close to the original Boston. If I've ever been there I must have blinked and missed it.

I've found it on Google maps and it seems to be basically a crossroads, with a few houses (one called Botany Bay) but no canals and no hash bars, so probably not.
