I saw it slightly differently.

R (runs) beside PENT (enclosure) ATE (dug in) SEE (spot) R (river)

Thank you Lie-in-King. I've never heard of this reference to a snake- noshing Caprine, so I could not see GOAT as the definition for this entry. I was also entirely unable to unpick it in the precise way that you have. Bravo!
