This was a great climax to the March round of challenges set by 'Princess Diana' aka GrannyDi.
Once again, she teased you with subtle hints (and some not quite so subtle) along with some distractors just to keep you guessing.
23 of you had no difficulty guessing what animals she saw in 'the middle of nowhere' at first light.
Only two players guessed the weight of a fruit cake.
Then only 5 players realised what was the best means to 'record the rainfall in my garden'.
Finally, the clouds burst and 'dumped their load'.
So I can reveal that the links you were seeking were:

MARCH HARE
FRUIT CAKE
RAIN GAUGE
CLOUD BURST

True to form, the first player, Roslyn, found two of them for 4 points.
Rockfordill, deecee131, fordward, beejay1124, owllady, Christiana and Brenden were all within the permitted 2-minute window for a bonus point so 2 points each for MARCH HARE.
Beejay1124, owllady and Brenden likewise collect 2 points for CLOUD BURST.

Brenden went one better than that, being first to find RAIN GAUGE as well (2 pts) making a total of 6 points and making her the highest scorer this weekend.

The final link lasted until 9:27 when player #17, Jobjockey, decided that Princess Diana didn't like marzipan (so no Marchpane and no Simnel Cake) and instead opted for FRUIT CAKE (2 points)
Nobody matched it within 2 minutes.

From there on it was single points with a few scoring double hits but a worthy mention for a second treble hitter - Kawakiri - but only for 3 points I'm afraid.

For being the highest scorer AND a treble hitter, I therefore declare:
**** THE HOTSHOT ****
*** OF THIS WEEK ***
**** IS BRENDEN ****

and this weekend's scorers were:
(yes, most of you!)
6 Brenden
4 beejay1124
4 owllady
4 roslyn251254
3 kawakiri
2 albaqwerty (Mr)
2 boxtops

1 Dickythecook
1 Eiggam
1 Elspeth
1 ladyalex

It just remains to seen how that affects the leaderboard and who will be setter for APRIL?
See below . . .

Last weekend we saw Roslyn251254 out in front by 2 points and this weekend, her score of 4 points kept her in front by 5 points from Brenden (sadly, the antipodean travellelers (Christiana & Manxiemo) were off form this weekend and slipped down the rankings.
Therefore it is time to blow the trumpets and announce
*** THE CHAMPION ***
**** FOR MARCH IS ****
**** ROSLYN251254 ****

BUT . . . Roslyn has set the links twice befre - most recently last
November.

The runner up, BRENDEN, has never set the links before so I invite BRENDEN to be SETTER for APRIL.

quick - simnel - gauge - burst

Only the last two were correct and both were more than 2 minutes after their first discovery, so just 2 points.

Sorry to disappoint.
Thanks gen, need a memory implant!
Well done to all the points scorers, I've had fun this month and hope that you have too.
I do hope that Brenden will take on the task for next month and enjoy the challenge!
Thanks Grannydi and Gen2, and well done to all scorers. I seem to have stick on 4 points for the last three months, so will have to 'think outside the box' a bit more next time.
Wow - my highest monthly total ever! I like your linking grannydi! Thanks to gen2 as ever. Looking forward to brenden Easter weekend.

Middlestump,
Maybe it is your name? Middle = middle.

Why not try re-branding yourself as TOPstump (or BAIL)?
