Clue from yesterday's Times: Lake with boat, not British (5)
Today's Answer: Large

I can see L = Lake + (B)arge.  But what is the definition?  I can't find a Lake Large in my atlas or on Google.  What have I missed, please?

Thanks kev100, but how has the word "large" been defined?  If the clue said, "Great Lake with boat, not British", for example, there'd be no problem.
Hi Marsh,

I'm not familiar with the Times crossword, but cryptic clues don't always make perfectly logical sense, look at the definition for the word cryptic here:

http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/c/c0782500.html

Cryptic clues sometimes are "mystifying" they sometimes arn't be completely logical.

I think it more likely that a word was accidentally missed off - typos do occur in newspapers, even the Times! You're right in thinking that there is no definition, and no cryptic clue would be complete without one, no matter how cryptic (unless it's a thematic puzzle with preamble, which the Times isn't). Good cryptic clues ARE logical and sound - that's the point!
Yes, Marsh, it had me confused, too. I decided it had to be lacking the word 'Great' at the start as well and simply wrote 'large' in.

Thanks again kev100   Thanks even more, Quizmonkey.  With your confirmation of my view, I find that I am no longer irritated and can bin my stroppy letter to the Times.   When I've solved today's puzzle life will be perfect.
