Thanks - I'll give it a try.
I've finished it, which is good for me this early in the month, but have no idea why the answer to 18 down is as i have it (COD, missing letter T), and also where my answer to 14 across (PLAYING) fits into the theme phrases (i don't seem to need it!). I'll submit the grid I have tomorrow but any help would be appreciated.
OK, 18 must just be CO of the DT I guess
Playing God perhaps?
No, not "playing God" - I'm wrong. So where does "playing" fit in?
A la Tiger Woods perhaps? I am playing great.
playing the great I am?
I believe I have solved the puzzle if wine press is correct at 5ac but doesn't this give you a superfluous m for empress and how does this fit into the 10 letter word suggested in the preamble? I can find the hyphenated word in the downs but can neither get the beginning nor end of the letters yielded by across clues.Does the word end ic and if so where do these letters fit in? Sorry about the lengthy entry but it is complicated to explain precisely where I've become stuck
"she" is peeress not empress
Thanks. Is there an ic ending on the first word?
the across clue misprints now spell out egocentric
The "c" comes from 6d (c) e arne st
can you tell me where the i and the c come from? thanks
Thanks and the i is from rag doll. Much appreciated all loose ends tied up
The "i" comes from anagram of g(i) rl and load giving ragdoll for 2d
