Are you after after any particular answers at the moment ?
I can't get going with this at all. I thought that 2D might be NEON, which might be clued by the first part of 12A. And 24D might be RASS, clued by the end of 10A. Finally 16D might be CHIVALROUS? But I'm really not very sure. If anyone can confirm or refute these, or otherwise give me a start, I would be grateful.
I am not sure about RASS for 24dn because the subsidiary part ignores the first letter. If rass is right for 10ac (which is quite possible) then we are looking for brass or grass or crass etc. in the definitions. Also cannot find an adequate definition of rass.

If 2dn is NEON then we are looking for EON which checks with the second part of 12ac so could be correct if 12's def. is "relating to".

I can say that the 11ac definition is "of a particular unit" and has it's subsidiary in 5dn which involves an anagram (with an extra letter at the front). This is as far as I have got though after hours of staring at it!

Are you sure about 16dn? is 8 letters..??

Best of luck..
Okay, thanks. So 11A is REGIMENTAL and 5D is RE-EMERGE, clued by the end of 1D. So two of the 4 initial letters are R and E. Any ideas about the "something to drive?"

Sorry about 16D. I meant that it might contain the cryptic clue to a 10-letter solution. "CH" + "VARIOUS" + the unclued "L". I was clutching at straws.
1D is RIBOSOME, clued by the end of 22D.
hello good friends I am now convinced that for my level I cannot do it alone and having got your help here is my contribution for you to ponder 10ac is dojo and I think 24ac and 24d are howl and hash and the 4 letters are herd. Almost having been on the point of giving up I now feel we can crack it atleast by joint effort.
I have not had the time to look for the subsidiary parts but can 22ac and 22d be radish and reefer?
Keep at it friends, it is beginning to be some fun now
22D is REEFER, clued by the end of 15A.
Thanks everyone for the help in getting started. A thoroughly enjoyable puzzle. All done but still can't see why for a couple of them..... will keep pondering.
