Thanks for the link slaney.

Nice to see you back after your break.

Regards K
Thanks slaney - Happy New Year to You !
many thanks for link
Missing only the unclued 21d. Don't want the answer (yet) but need to know: is it something an American would be very unlikely to know (like 22a, perhaps) or is it something relatively common? Thanks.
Question Author
dr b not a common word ( for me at any rate).
It says "origin uncertain" in Chambers.
I found it in Bradford's.

Thank you K...I'm finding it hard to adjust to the cold and the dark!
And cruciverbalist a belated Happy New Year to you and everyone else.

OK, lacking access to Bradfords (or Chambers for that matter) I'll settle for the answer, if you don't mind giving it!

Thanks.
Never mind! found it.
dr b I don't know if you are an American in the UK or still in the USA (the wonders of the Web !!), but you can get an online subscription to Chambers (albeit, I believe, one version out-of-date):

I am American in the US, of all things! I will look in to that, thanks.
Belated thanks for the link, Slaney, only just remembered to look. Nice to have you back. The holiday sounded fascinating.
And very belated thanks from me too, Slaney. I hope I'm not in hot water!
