3d Can somebody please explain the wordplay for me.

Book (arrest) retrograde small man.

The answer must be BANTAM and I know there is a superfluous T in the wordplay somewhere.

But I just can't see it.

I haven't seen the puzzle or any preamble but-

NAB (Arrest ) MAT(T) (man) - both retrograde <

= BANTAM - a small man

Like Kayakamina I haven't seen this puzzle, but I think Mat(thew) may be the small man.

Bantam is a publishing house .... might one refer to a bantam as a book, rather like one could refer to a Penguin ?

My problem stemmed from deciding that B is the book, whereas it's MATT.
