They reckon Jesus suffered for our sins, but surely if he was suffering for everyones sins, including those not born yet he got off llightly with mere crucifixion

You think that suffering this:

is getting off lightly? Please don't ever torture me paulos
Just a couple of nine inch nails through your wrist and feet, a sphere in the side and a halo of thorns. Not to mention three days out in the open air suspended as so which meant a death by slow suffocation as far as I'm aware.

All after a short hike to get there.

Dunno what all the fuss was about.

(Now the day Thomas broke down and Gordon had to come help him out, that was torture).
'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me ?'

Have you ever wondered what that actually means ? If you come to the same conclusion as I do then you will realise just how far from a doddle it was.

The headline did the trick then 4gs, I'll not open that link at work as I've just had lunch. Ok I realise it's not the easy option but from my limited knowledge his crucifixion was a bit worse than everybody elses but not in relation to the sins he was suffering for
I can't think of anything right now that would be worse than crucifixion as described in the link.

I can be fast and careful said Thomas with his cargo of eggs

Daffy i bet the CIA could
Question Author
Whiffey, no I have never considered what that meant as what was actually said is nothing but conjecture - he was more likely to have said "ouch"
Yeah, I know what you're getting at, I was in the Holyland two years ago and visited the Via Dolorosa starting where He was flogged to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and I wouldn't enjoy carrying a 110lb crossbeam up a great big fcuk off hill with the Middle East sun burning bare flesh after the skin had been stipped off my back, then have iron nails driven into my wrists and feet, then as if that wasn't enough have my legs broken and given vinegar to drink when complaining about being thirsty
If I had the choice, I'd choose freedom.

Nah, Im just pulling your leg. Its crucifixion really.
Cake or Death? (Or possibly noodles?)
'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me ?'

So have a ponder now. Assuming he said it, and assuming it means exactly what it appears to mean, it's mind-blowing, makes the physical suffering of crucifixion a sideline doesn't it.
I know I wouldn't fancy crucifixion!x
Question Author
Whiffey two assumptions too far for me; enlighten me as to what it makes you think
If you were crucified, the breaking of the legs was often a blessing since it speeded up death. If the legs were not broken then it would be a considerably longer painful death, finally of suffocation, loss of blood, shock, dehydration or exhaustion.

An alternative to crucifixion was impalement.

I haven't got the stomach for this thread!
'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me ?'

Well, if at that moment God HAD actually disappeared to leave Jesus to get on with it alone for a time, what you have is the weight of all the rottenness of all time suddenly landing on a single pair of shoulders (over and above hanging on a cross etc) without a single atom of solace or goodness. That is the most exquisitely massive pain imaginable, infact it exceeds human imagination.

It is probably a load of cack, but what if it isn't ?
Question Author
Yep that beats crucifixion!!!
Surely if it is a load of cack then so would the idea of God be and in that case Jesus could never have felt the full weight of all that time?

Or

If not cack then God never did forsake him and he still didn't feel that weight because he wasn't alone? However, he was in a great deal of pain so I'm not suprised he thought he might be.

Not really sure where I'm going with those thoughts. Just thinking aloud (well pixelly speaking).
