16d EDENTATA = eden (paradise) + tata (farewell), the order of mammals including sloths
Not sure about 18a - the only thing I can find is DISOBLIGE, which means upset, or disturb, or "put out", and people who are put out can be "fired up" - seems to fit, but I'm not sure.
Are you doing the MedLabWorld crossword this month, Trevilino ?

The last few clues are making me tear my hair out !
18a could be DISCHARGE if your L is wrong

Question Author
Thanks Gerry B.
The D from Edentata is the first letter of 18a so Disoblige would fit. Maybe they should have put a comma between the "Put out" and the "Fire".

Not got the MedLabWorld JD - Which ones are driving you mad?
Question Author
Re-checked my answers JD and you're right. The L should be an A and DISCHARGE fits better. Thanks for that one. Now finished to my satisfaction.
Factor in faecal movement when a joint-university involvement's held up. ?L?U????

Neuroglia pain, note's written up ??I?

Tumours may hit carers: as a rule, it passes away

?A???R?

Theres two more that I can't remember at the moment
Our lab doesn't get the Lab News anymore, but I was told that the crossword no longer has a cash prize, is that right ?
Question Author
Could the first one be Albumins?
Fits the first half of the clue but can't see the 3nd half apart from U for university.
Question Author
make that 2nd half

Re Lab News.

There's no cash prize for the crossword but a 50 prize for the Limerick.

This month's
"There was a young man from France,
Who was constantly in a trance"
Submit next 3 lines
The clues are always VERY cryptic, but eventually you're normally able to pick apart every part of the clue to fit the answer, and I can't seem to do that with ALBUMINS.

I think I'm going to have to use my spellchecker and google every weird word that comes up !

Either that or give up totally !
I'll check out my rhyming dictionary when I get home. If I come up with any good suggestions I'll post them tonight.

There was a young man from France,
Who was constantly in a trance,
But he soon met a girl,
Whose head was in a whirl,
And they started a crazy romance.

Very good JD.
I was thinking about entering that in the comp for you but I've just looked at the closing date and it's 17th August. Bit early if you ask me because I only received the magazine about 10 days ago.
If you look at http://www.labnews.co.uk/competition_winners.p hp/60/science-competition you'll see the standard of limericks on offer. Your's is every bit as good as last month's winner.
I used to enter all the Lab News comps regularly when we got the mag, and when there was the occasional ditloid comp for a bottle of Clicquot.

I won the crossword and lottery comps several times - so I've definitely had my share !

Thanks for the link, I've got an answerbank friend in Blackpool, who I regularly discuss the MLW crossword with, and I know she gets the Lab News as well. So I might see you next month for any help we/you may need.

I did actually fill in the on-line form to get a subscription, but as a basic grade BMS - with no spending power - they never sent it.

Is this Eddie under another blanket?
Still no luck with those last few, but I haven't given up yet.
Joanna
D'oh you've spotted me again - am I so obvious !

Eddie

Yes ! You're my Blackpool friend !

By the way I'm working on Aleurone for 4d

11a may be Botox or Venom ???

17a maybe Vipd

I haven't given up yet - but I'm getting close !
Hi Eddie,
You are right with Venom, it's serum is used in haemostasis somehow. I don't know about your aleurone now though.
Joanna
Hi Joanne - that's what I found. But I'm no clearer with any of the other clues - I'm thinking of chucking this one !
