very many thanks I worked out the last one is knead
Well done Wendy!
Jonnalex, have you been working on the Matlock town foot ball quiz, which involves criptic clues to a journey to London and places visitted, most of the answers are places in London, as we are struggling with one or two answers

Re places in London, try these cryptic clues, see if you can help me,

1. take a nauticl word for the wind, expressing joy, and a type of slightly leavened Indian bread and stir

2. A beaked Galley, a goad and the ninth hour of the day in Roman and ecclesiastical reckoning are stirred.

3. To complain, to recover, a note, a satellite of Saturn all mixed together

I believe they are in the Kensington area

Question Author
have copied these Qs off olivia and will reply later in day if I have any success - not sure if this will reach johnalex but if you haven't already asked it in main section perhaps shaney star or one of the other clever regulars will help you

Hi Wendy and to you also Olivia - Sorry for not replying earlier, only just checked in on this thread. Not heard of Matlock quiz but will try and assist later. Regardz, ja

johnalex, if this is any help re the matlock quiz, a beaked galley could be DRAKE, ninth hour NONES, but it still takes some finding, other answers include tube stations, areas of London and visitor attractions

Hi Burgess3334 - Thanx for your info, still on the case but no luck yet. Not sure about 'NONES' - thought that was ninth day. Working on 'lX' for 9, if correct the X should stand out when searching through lists of London attractions (which I've tried without success!). For Q1, possibly 'lee' for 'wind', then 'jubilant' for 'expressing joy', looking distinctly like 'jubilee' something, but dreaming again . . .. Over to you guys (and gals!). ja

stay with it johnalex we still have a month before submitting, thanks for the suggestions, I will work on them, if I find anything I will let you know

Burgess3334 - thanx for your previous message. Having probed a bit deeper into 'NONES' this has to be favourite - lX abandoned! Re 'DRAKE', can you elaborate? 'GALLEY' means ship or kitchen, so do we mean 'DRAKE'S SHIP' . . . ? (may need more letters).

Wendy - is it OK to continue with this thread under your banner?

Olivia - what have I done to deserve all this brain damage ?!

Question Author
johnalex and olivia Please do continue this thread here. I have had little opportunity to further test my brain on these Qs what with family birthdays and the garden (my main hobby when weather permits) but I am enjoying the thread to the extent I can't wait for the answers so please carry on. If I do come up with anything I will pass it on too

Wendy
johnalex, Crofter gave me the Drake answer to the Beaked Galley part of the the question, from his Chambers Dictionary, it was the name of Viking boat used when there was a burial at sea
