many thanks roslyn, I think I'll have to throw in the towel on this one

You're in the area where ''entries overlap'', quinol.

Sorry, roslyn251254, I see you've covered the overlap (are you trying to use the 'u' from the down clue rather than starting UTOPISTS afresh, quinol?).

UTOPIST singular!

Question Author

many thanks for help prof maisie (u in right place, I think) and roslyn.

Can't see where to put lawn and patent and osteon, among various other problems

osteon is wrong ...should be ossein...basis of bonE + o s s ( alt letters from possessed) + in (on wearing)...it goes at the bottom of column 9

the T of patenT and the A of Attest occupy the same cell

similar with lawN and Rhodium

so the crosser of these has TA RN at the start in 2 cells....

Question Author

many thanks rosyn, I shouldn't go on trying your patience, I still can't solve 'impaired' 'simmer' 'boxer''trees' 'further' so I'm miles away from finishing

'impaired' biblical error (3 letters reversed) inside anag 'thread.'

A small 'sWimmer' S+ anag of 'part'.

'boxer' - first letter of 'G(ettin)g' + next word (reversed).

Anag of 'trees' + ends of D(istorte)D.

Remove the st ('...silence') from the end of a word for 'instead of' (or 'anti',maybe?) for 'further' (or 'repeated', maybe?).

...'G(etting)'.
