I have the quote and the utterer of it, and have filled the rest of the grid, but don't find a 'suggestion of how to complete the perimeter'

The creatures in the quote are 'circling' the grid, Quinol

And unless you're a selachimorphologust, a reference source will likely be required!

many thanks oftpuzzled - I'll trawl the superorder

They are all in the Big Red Book. So "Words" might help.

Question Author

thank you hypotheses I struggle on with only Google and guesswork and did get there in the end

Where do you start adding the circling things, please? Do you start at 1ac and work your way around in a clockwise manner?

I have the Big Red Book but don't find the definition at all helpful.

How can 'Words' help, please Hypotheses? I don't understand that.

Yes, Tilly2, start at 1a and go clockwise.

Tilly, the first thematic entry is at 1 A and they do go round clockwise. There are several odd-looking ones, but I spotted letters that looked to lead to normal, reasonably well-known... varieties. There's a small run of fairly common varieties from the first letter of 6 D - maybe this'll give you a start....

Thank you both. That's very helpful.

Frustratingly I have got almost all the perimeter, but still have a few blank unclued lights where I just can't see what the relevant words could be. If I've got the rest right then these would be the third and fifth in the list, and are both short words (which makes it even more frustrating that I can't get them!). Is anyone able to offer a hint for these?

What letters have you got for them?

Question Author

I seem to remember they're all quite long words - the name of the superorder should help with the last one

Thanks! I have T?RE starting at 16A, and ?G?E starting between 39D and 30D. They don't look like they're intended to go with the previous or subsequent words (at least based on the lists I've seen online) but I could easily be wrong about that.

rhymes with fresher

My memory of where each one is has deserted me - is theother one a "skint snoopy"?

after the one that rhymes with fresher....is your next one ...9 letters long , ending in the 4 you give...?G?E

They all go clockwise around the perimeter, so I am not sure what you mean that one starts at 16a?

Thanks again. I don't have anything rhyming with 'fresher' unfortunately.

What I have around my perimeter is: 9 letters beginning with W (starting at 1); 7 letters beginning with D (starting at 6D); then the T?RE that I'm unsure about (starting at 16A); then 9 letters beginning with S (starting at 28A); then the ?G?E that I'm also unsure about (starting between 39D and 30D); then 10 letters beginning with B (starting at 29D); then 9 letters beginning with S (starting between 36A and 31A).

Dogfish. Does that help?
