Clue in today's crossword is "Drop a note" answer looks like Minim? Just not sure how it fits the "drop"? Any explanation appreciated. Thank you.

It's a double definition clue.

Minim

the smallest unit of liquid measure, 1/60 (0.0167) of a fluid dram, roughly equivalent to one drop

And also the shortest note.

Minim is definitely not the shortest note, unless you mean by number of letters...
