I like boho/folksie/vintage clothes and I wear pale green frilly dresses with brown boots. She'll say, "Why can't you dress more like everyone else and more worldly?" Well, I like my dress sense as it's very much "me". I think deep down because I'm single it'll make men less attracted to me by continuing to dress how I do. I live with her currently. How can I get round this?

Treacle you sound unique and lovely. Parents, especially mums, are rarely happy with what their children, yes at 51 you are still her child, wear ;-) Because you dress how you 'feel' you will eventually attract someone who feels the same -if you want to that is. Being individual with the character to wear what you want not what you think you should wear is...

tell her to mind her own business. dress how you like - the right man will find you
Be direct.

e.g.
" I dress this way because it makes me feel good and I don't need you to try to make me feel bad, thank you! Now, how about a nice cup of tea?"

;-)
if you want him to!
Live with it I'd say. My mother was the same but one day they are gone and you end up thinking her quirks are what made her your mum and you'll miss her for it.
Grow up?
Im 51.....
And you still live at home??
Yeah right!
Course you do....
When my husband grew a beard his mother huffed and puffed and said disapprovingly, ‘Hmmm … I don’t like beards!’

His reply? ‘Just as well you’ve not got one then!’

Take it in good humour. Whatever your age, you’re her child and she loves you.

I certainly do, nailit.

Coffee all over the keyboard again. LOL.
Just smile, shrug your shoulders, say ok, then ignore her and carry on dressing how you want to. You don’t need to change or justify how you dress.
Haaaa! Sorry Canary. You’ve made me laugh now! :o))

Nailit, perhaps she wants to live at home. It’s her choice.

I'm just financially savvy currently, plus apart from our disagreements mum is my best friend and I have no other family as they're all dead.

Treacle, you don’t have to explain yourself.
Do ignore it, Treacle. Nailit can be very rude and cruel at times.

Wear what makes you happy and do as I do....smile at Mum and say... I'm sure you're right.... :-)
// I think deep down because I'm single it'll make men less attracted to me by continuing to dress how I do.//
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. Do you not want men to be attracted to you?
