Three clues from last week's prize crossword, where I know the answers but don't understand the parsing :-
1) Coin that was rectangular? Normal shape for coin! (5) OBANG
2) Summer featured days on the turn, shorter (5) ADDER
3) Game had by for example snowboarders (3-2-3-6) PIG IN THE MIDDLE

1 obang ... japanese retangular coin
2 adder reversed in clue
on is RE. on the turn is ER, days is D+D. Not sure of the A
featuRED DAys
Mallyh's is better... never noticed that its hidden backward's.
Am not sure why 'shorter' fits in though??
I think 1a is a cryptic clue - the O is the shape of a normal coin and the ! = 'bang'.
3 "...snow BOAR ders" (in the middle, for example)

"Shorter" because not all the letters are used.
summer is someone who does sums adding for example x
yes, got that bit mallyh... it was just the shorter bit which lieinking has explained

Many thanks to all who contributed. Like bobbinwales, I hadn't noticed that ADDER appeared backwards in the clue, - so that is now totally clear thanks to mallyh.
I really liked the parsing of PIG IN THE MIDDLE, so thank you for that LiK.
Thanks also to ProfessorMaisie for his effort at parsing OBANG. I can't say I'm either happy or impressed if the solution really is that an exclamation mark (!) is used to represent "BANG". I certainly don't think it's up to The Times' normal high standards.

I have deliberately thanked you all for your contributions so that I can avoid the invidious decision of who should receive the Best Answer accolade.
