Thanks all, my point is that I cannot find a verb to poncho, only an adjective.I feel like complaining to the Times about a grammatically incorrect clue.
I suppose its just like suited and booted but I never say hatted and coated or shirted and tied
Racoony. The OP does not indicate a verb, so the adjective is acceptable.
... the 'to get' in the clue shows the way to the answer.
The definition is 'ready for wet weather' ie are you ponchoed?

What about the verb to get in the clue?

OK I give up.I am obviously not going to get anywhere. Thanks for help everyone.
... think I must be psychic! ;0))
Raccony, Captain2's was exactly how I'd thought the clue worked, ponchoed= ready for wet weather.
