I would be grateful for an explanation of the following
Originally male university with men's college . Ans Emmanuel (Cambridge college)
Kept woman from disparaging upper-class ancestor. Ans Courtesan (kept woman).
Brave as a lion is in spell of bad fortune. Ans Indian sign. The Indian might be the brave but that's as far as I can get.
Comprehensive school building used a good deal. Ans full house (good hand in poker) . Comprehensive might be full and a building could be a house but can't see where the school and used fit in.
Old British characters act badly after the game's up. Ans ogham (Irish historic alphabet) . I can see ham and there is a board game called go but if correct why is go "the" game.
This is from crossword 71 in book 3 . It included words I'd never heard of -clayhanger, duenna, inchoate, neophyte & ogham. Well done anyone who solved it unaided at the time. I managed to solve only one clue!

Many schools divide their pupils into 'houses'. With traditional boarding schools, 'houses' were/are actual physical buildings.
Emmanuel - anag 'male u(ni) + men'
Courtesan - anag 'u(pper-class) ancestor'
Indian sign (spell of [to bring] bad luck) - 'Indian (brave) sign (as lion/Leo)'
Lion = sign (birthsign leo)
2 anag of u + ancestor
Ogham - because "the game's up" provides a better surface than "a game's up"
