. . . . this time being held back by the Canal Authorities who want a £billion compensation before they release it.

Correction: $ not £
so it seems,
It would be interesting to see what would happen if the Ever Given was to simply cut and run.

// simply cut and run. //

According to the Officials,"the crew are safe" - doesn't say whether on board or not. I wonder.

You mean , like the Bismarck ? :-)
I think I'm getting mixed up with my ships I was thinking of the one which a film was made about .

Was it the Graf Spee
which had to put into a Neutral port to try and get repaired , after being damaged by RN battleships .
Then broke out from the harbour and then deliberately sunk on the orders of the German commander ?

I thought the Amethyst was more appropriate, Baz, because it actually ran aground on the shores of the Yangtze and early efforts to free it failed. Mind you, it did come under heavy gunfire which, as far as we know, the Ever Given didn't!
I guess they have a salvage claim. Quite normal in Maritime. Insurance company (often Lloyds of London) will pay.
Is this why my new slippers haven't arrived yet?

You're right with the details of the Graf Spee bazile, it was off the coast of South America. And the Bismarck was sunk by British Forces while heading for home in the English Channel. Both made it to the Silver Screen however.

Graf Spee: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battle_of_the_River_Plate_(film)

Bismarck:

will it ever get under way ?

predictabe I wd have thought - someone has to pay and the Egyptians arent flush wiv moolah. I know - I have been there
The Bismarck ran the channel thus:

both sides had radar ( ha!) to watch traffic. and the Germans jammed the British just a leedol on Day 1 - and then a leedol bit more days later and then....
until there was white out on the british side which allowed the bismark to break out

Admiral Dudley Pound lost his job over that one .... Churchill used to fire his commanders like nobodys business...

they arent thinking of pushing the Duke out on a buring viking ship are they? - like at the end of Beau geste
No PP, just a Land rover
Baksheesh.

Can we do a swap, I wonder?

The Egyptians are hanging onto the Ever Given but here, in Suffolk, we're hanging onto Noah's Ark!
