Can someone start me off on how to solve across clues?

Each clue has two definitions for two answers and wordplay for letters that are common to each.

A. Superior accommodation in home you once requested (6)

e.g. clue F : Zoological cases from that
time originally explored
carefully in article
the 2 defns are zoological cases and from that time. wordplay is
TH EC E which goes in both across bits
answer to 1st defn is thecae so put A in the 1st middle space
answer to 2nd defn is thence so put N next to the A
the 12 letters read along the rows spell out something .....

In A the 2 defns are superior accommodation and requested

the wordplay is YE (old version of you) inside PAD (home)
so enter PAYED in both
superior accommodation is paybed so B goes in
requested is prayed so R goes in

I got swelling from 7d.
Also suffering tremor from I.

I have solved it.
I get two names in the center.
Related to matches. Very British so I had look the names up. Was not aware of the entity.
