Quote from crossword centre.org...
I have heard that the Enigma Variations puzzles in the Sunday Telegraph will cease after this August. I am saddened by this end to a long-running series of thematic crosswords. EV editor, Steve Bartlett, only recently took the role of EV editor when Chris Lancaster was promoted to be Telegraph crossword editor.
Shame....

I've never done this one but saddened that the 4 page pull out of sudoko's and puzzles in today's Sunday express is no longer there, presumably because they have the sport pull out now. It would keep me going all Sunday doing these puzzles.
It is a shame - my first published cryptic was an EV (and the only puzzle I've ever had rejected was an EV too!). However, I stopped submitting to the EV when the fifteensquared blogs of two of my puzzles received no comments at all (the puzzles didn't get any mentions on the forums either). I think most amateur setters want as much feedback - and evidence that people are doing their crosswords - as they can get, and Listener/IQ/Magpie/Crossword Centre puzzles invariably seem to elicit far more reaction.
After contacting the Telegraph I got an e-mail to day with the following extract:-
//Further to your enquiry, I am happy to advise that the EV crossword puzzles will be continued. We are sorry for the confusion.//
Yes, the good news came through last week. I would urge all EV solvers to make a point of either commenting on 15 squared or emailing comments to [email protected]. The problem was the perceived lack of interest so let's show there is that interest.
Sorry, I missed that.Contacted them on 21st June.Talk about snail mail.
I was one of many who emailed Chris Lancaster - and to his great credit he replied to all those emails individually - but I also snail-mailed the Telegraph CEO. Whether or I receive a reply to that is a different matter.
