I am not there yet but you might want to reconsider the E in 12a. I think the two clues contaning definitions only and leading to two answers are 9d and 13d giving two options for letters in the last two squares of 12a

PP, it'll be much easier to get the 10-letter words once you've done the 2 x 2 blocks.

If you have the two words in 12a it helps a bit but only when you have solved 1d (2,5) The word "thing" then comes into play. As Neveracrossword said the blocks are important and read clockwise from NW to SW. The 10 letter words are in close probity and in a relevant shape
