Dionysius is the god of the grape harvest.
I think the setter was confused between Dionysius and Dionysus,

There is no mention of corn in the clue.

Your reasoning is correct for Bacchanalia.
I apologise for mixing up Dionysius (first century bishop - probably not a boozer!) and Dionysus the god of the grape harvest. Well spotted DK.
(Slice of humble pie for me for breakfast tomorrow.)
