A very late start this week. His Nibs and I will not be seeing each other until September as he has gone on holiday with his family and we go to Ireland for our annual trip whereas he comes back. We spent the whole weekend together. no time for anything or anyone else. Fantastic!!! But now weeks apart. I feel it already!

To the crossword. There are three that I think I know the answer but I don't know why. I need help as usual.
"necessary ordnance not initially functioning. " With the letters I have, "inescapable" fits. That, I suppose is "necessary" but I don't get the rest.
"be sad for us in the midst of glumness" "Mourn" fits and that's "be sad". But the rest?
And finally
"Unhappy about routine picked up over a year, or a lot less". The only word that i can see that fits with the letters I have is "Saturday" . I see "sad" and "a y " but why the rest?

please help me .

non-something
Mourn is Our, for us, in the middle/midst of ' glu mn ess'. M our n.
Saturday

Sad round rut bacj + A + Y
^ back
Sad+Rut (routine) Day.
Ignore that- it's initial letters but there is no definition
Inescapable

(M)Ines + capable
(M) Ines then capable
functioning is ABLE
Well I sort of got the end bit right.
Inescapable it is
FF, that would leave Cap, I think Mamya's Capable works!

Thank you all very much for your help. As ever, so many amazing people to help advise. I feel embarrassed not seeing "our". But may I press you an the "Saturday" answer. Is the fact that it is a single day, the reason for "or a lot less"?
And does "capable" really mean "functioning"?
steven

steven
Yes a day is a lot less than a year.

Functioning/capable is fine.
I suppose Saturday (one day) is 'a lot less' than a year
Question Author
Thank you both for the extra help. I think the Saturday answer is a bit feeble, tbh.
but maybe that's because I am feeling a bit low.
And I have just noticed the typos (the machine "corrected" what I wrote) in my original piece. Sorry
steven

We don't have to appreciate all the clues, sometimes they leave you cold I know.

Sorry you're feeling low, time will fly - I know you won't believe me.x
Question Author
Thanks, Mamyalynne. It hasn't flown today but I'm sure you are right, as ever, that it will speed up. I certainly hope so!
And crosswords will help!
