Does it really matter whether you use a bait runner reel for float fishing? I've apparently lost my usual float fishing reel and am left with 2 bait runners and a spinning reel. Does it really matter that someone has sold the reel as a bait runner if I want to use it as a float fishing reel?

As long as you do not use the 'free spool' option on the baitrunner reel then you can use it for float fishing. Only problem I can see is that baitrunner type reels are generally heavier and bulky. May well upset the balance of the Rod/Reel.
