I have no idea if that's a high rating of if it's one of those scales where you need to get above 95% to be any good.

Thanks jno....I have not heard of it before.

I am enjoying a glassette of that wonderful Pedro Jimenez at the moment !
I'd just found that same link myself, Jno.

It's the overall star rating which is the best guide there, with 4 stars being damned good for wines around a tenner, so 4 stars for a wine at £4 (or even at the full price of £6) is exceptional.

Albarino is a lovely grape, which is the most commonly grown white-wine variety in Spain (apart from in the Rioja region, where Viura reigns supreme) but surprisingly little known elsewhere. The wines it produces (especially from the west of the country, as with Rias Baixas) are dry but not short on fruit.
The Pedro Jiminez is lovely, I agree, Mikey. (I'm down to the last bottle of the case I bought).

It's odd that Spanish wine-makers, who use it to produce sherry, have never used it for white wines (or certainly not in any great quantities), whereas South American vineyards use it for the lovely apple-flavoured wine which we both enjoy.
Albariño is one of my favourite wines. Rias Biaxas is in the region of Galicia, where all the good Spanish lamb clmes from.
.....well, there's an Albarino, Rias Baixas recommended by the Mail's Matthew Dukes last weekend....at £15.02 a bottle from armitwines.co.uk. "One of the most delicious wines to drink with fish" and "electrifyingly zesty" are the comments.
So, at £3.99, looks like a "must try"!
albarino is a good grape and sounds like a good deal
thanks for the tip Mikey
£3.99! Goodness me.

Thanks guys....I shall buy a couple of bottles on Saturday.
The Cepa Ledrel Rioja blanco isn’t bad either.
But if you come across any Valdepeñas white it’s worth a try.
