Betnovate Rd For Topical Sting Treatment

I got mosquitoed yesterday - whilst the tubes of sting relief and antihistamine cream weren't available (out with someone else in the day pack).

It itched like crazy and (although I had promptly taken an antihistamine pill) I was looking for some topical relief.

I spotted a tube of Betnovate RD and thought 'why not - the skin's not broken' - so I rubbed a good dollop in. Worked like a charm - the itching stopped in about 10 mins and all the incipient redness disappeared quite quickly too (better than I'd expect from the oral antihistamine alone).

So ... sqad (if you are around) ... is this a real effect, or just me making an incorrect association?

Is there a downside of occasional use like this?

Cheers

Dave

I use betnovate for eczema outbreaks. It's like a miracle cream.
No downside Dave and the topical treatment of choice for bites in my opinion. Well done.
Seems about right to me, betnovate is a common topical steroid for skin irritations/conditions.

More effective than hydrocortisone in my opinion.

Downside from occasional use are negligible, continued use can lead to thinning of the skin.
Now he discovers this... :-(
It does say 'spread thinly' on the instructions, not 'rub a good dollop in.' :-)

Thanks everyone - I shall procure my own tube for future travels.

One question - it does say 'do not use on broken skin' - is this a real issue (for a small area) or just some sort of ***-covering by the manufacturers?

Dx

... 'bottom-covering' ...
Psoriasis is a common condition for betnovate to be used on, in turn it is frequently broken.
no ill affects.......yet.
Steroid skin preparations can slow the healing process on broken skin. I have used it on bites I scratched to bleeding point in my sleep, but I wouldn’t use it on the kind of dirty bite that results in a puss-y boil type thing.
