Could anyone help me parse these two? I CAN't see how they're done!
2D It could be bleak in such a tank (8). I have AQUARIUM.
16D Would those who once tried harder get support in this event? 5,3). I have DAVIS CUP.

16. D Cup is the support and Avis is a (car) company who used the slogan 'We try harder' (or something similar, someone else answered this yesterday). D avis Cup, Davis Cup, event.

Of course. Thanks. I didn't see this answered when I put in the crossword details to search. I must have been looking in the wrong place, maybe.
Since there is no suitable containment indicator in sight, I'd probably be inclined to parse 16d as D (shortened form of 'would') AVIS (who tried harder) CUP (support).
Sorry about the parsing for the D (in Davis Cup) - I'll take the D back and put it on a big dunce's hat for myself.
It's quite possible the idea could be along similar lines to 'on board' indicating 'in SS', ie 'get support' = 'in D-CUP', I just feel the alternative parsing is more likely. Now take that hat off and replace it with something more festive...
TheFrogman, no - I do think the other parsing, not mine, is better.
