This morning the phone rang while I was upstairs, I usually look at caller display but the upstairs phone doesn't show it. So I answered it. It was a foreigner who wanted OH, he couldn't even say his name correctly, his accent was so strong. I told him I didn't want this call and to remove my number from his list.
I checked with 1471 to see which of the hundreds of numbers of nuisance calls this was.
I was told there were no numbers stored on my list. I checked with all the phones in the house and was told the same thing. How can that be? That was the last number to call me. Later on I had a genuine call and I checked after and 1471 was working fine. Anyone any ideas?

I don't really understand, when you call 1471 it tells you when you were called and gives you the number or says we do not have the caller's number? Nothing to do with what's on a list on your phone.

I might have got the actual wording wrong but that was the gist of it. Never had this before.
"We do not have the caller's number" (or similar) simply means that the call was from an overseas number where the caller ID function isn't supported. Alternatively you might get the same number that I got just now when I dialled 1471: 0-00-0-00-0-00. Somehow or other I think that might not be genuine ;-)

Remember, as well, that overseas systems can inject false numbers (made to look like UK numbers) into the caller ID system. So a call that appears to have come from Southampton or Scunthorpe might actually have come from Mumbai or Abuja.

voodoo - deffo

lucky you didnt speak foreign - cudduv been much worse
Caran perhaps you could tell us exactly what you heard - you dial 1471 on your phone and you get an automated female voice who says " You were called (date and time)" and then what did it say?

It didn't say the usual message, no mention of last callers. Just there were no numbers stored on my list or words to that effect.
