Crime:
Murder of Ellen Applegarth of Wetherby.

Body hung in chains on Clifford Moor. See also TNA: ASSI 45/26/1/134-138.

TNA: ASSI 41/4; ASSI 42/7. Calendar of Felons, 23 Jul 1757. London Evening Post, 19 May 1757; 4 Aug 1757. Criminal Chronology, p 65.

It is possible that the victim Ellen Applegarth could be an ancestor of mine.I have tried to access the above reference material to learn more about this crime but am unable to do.
Is there anyone out there able to either access these records or better still able to expand on the limited information I was able to get.I am particularly interested to learn more about Ellen ,her family and any family information relative to the Applegarth surname
Thanking you

I think you need to state why you think she may be an ancestor i.e. Where does your family tree go back to in relation to her?

Thanks Zacs-Master for your suggestion.Although I have several Ellen Applegarth's in my family tree I haven't yet positively managed to make a match up with the murder victim Ellen Applegarth and her two children .However as this seems to be an unusual surname back in those days,I feel there could well be a family connection to my Applegarth family line.
I have to date traced my Applegarth surname family line back to a Robert Applegarth b.1640 who married Mary Taylor ,on 23/May 1659 in Durham,England. This is where my brickwall crops up.Someday I hope to research back even further back into medevial times.
