Hopefully you have all now recovered from any excesses of the festive period and are ready to tackle the Links games with a new resolve.

So, it is 'Out with the old, In with the new' and talking of 'new', we have a new setter in the MM Links Game. 'The Lady Radley' returns after an interval of more than three years since she last set the challenge. Will you be going back through the archives to study her previous form? Would it make any difference if you did?

As this is a new year, I shall outline the scoring in these games:

MM Links, named after the late Michael Mepham and now set by one of our own players (this month by Handbaglady).
Game managed/scored by me (gen2).
All correct matches are worth 1 point.
The first discoverer of each correct link is awarded a bonus point and anyone else who also correctly guesses the same link within 2 minutes gets a bonus point as well so early play is advised in this game.
Two further bonus points are also on offer to anyone managing a 'clean sweep' of all four links.
The MM Game starts in Q&P with an introduction at 8:45 on Saturday Morning and the challenge itself at 9:00.
The game closes at 7pm on Sunday when the results will be posted in Q&P.

KM Links Game, named after Kate Mepham (Michael's Daughter) who currently sets the General Knowledge crosswords in The Daily Telegraph where four answers on Saturday are highlighted and link to four highlighted answers in Monday's Herculis Crossword.
Game managed and scored from Australia by Seekeerz (Steff)
No bonus points on offer so no rush to play this version is necessary.
1 correct guess = 1 point
2 correct guesses = 3 points
3 correct guesses = 6 points
4 correct guesses = 10 points
The KM Game starts in Q&P whenever Seekeerz has the 4 answers from Saturday's crossword - usually very early but currently being disrupted by problems with the Telegraph Puzzle website.
The game closes at midnight Sunday when the 'Herculis' is published. Results are then posted once the scores have been calculated.

In both games, the players attempt to guess the link words before they are revealed/published.

Every Friday evening, usually around 8pm, I come into 'The Shrubbery' to remind everyone of the games to come and traditionally, the rest of the thread has been used for socialising.
Originally, many joined in but now few poke their heads round the potting shed door I cant complain because it is often inconvenient for me to stick around myself on a Friday evening.

So, whether of not you look in tonight, be sure to look in Q&P tomorrow morning.

Until then,
Happy Linking,
gen2

At least "the Lady Radley" hasn't come back as "la Duchesse Hermes" or something to do with Louis Vuitton!
I have a friend who is a long-suffering (and wallet depleting) husband of a wife with an obsession with Radley handbags!
..moi... I just thought Radley was a Public School...
Question Author
I understood 'Lady Radley' to be a character in Oscar Wilde's ' The Picture of Dorian Gray '.

..but see http://www.radley.co.uk/handbags/
and, yes, Gen
Lady Radley's godson (from memory) was Dorian Gray
...but there is a correlation not just between a handbag (Yes, Lady Bracknell, I was in a hand bag. A somewhat large... black... leather handbag with handles... to it) and Oscar Wilde and the manufacturer referred to above but also the similarity between a handbag and art and the end of the preface to "The Picture of Dorian Gray":
"All art is quite useless."
I am sure Lady R will dispute any connection to that observation!!
Hello Gen2 and Lady Radley. Looking forward to tomorrow's game.
