Thought I was finished then realised I'd miss one!
6 down: Deposits being accepted by old charater (7) LOES_ _S
The letter before the final 's' is e or o
Could someone explain the wordplay of both 6 down & 25 across? (Just about get over ages of the past (4) Elds or Olds?

6d = LOESSES 'a deposit found in valleys'.

LOS = obsolete word for 'reputation'.

ESSE = 'essence, actual existence'.

25a = ELDS, but two of the letters are ignored.
