Yain seems a rather obscure word for this type of crossword. Or is this a Scottish crossword which has dialect words in?
Grant could be Dole or Boon but neither seems to fit

Thanks. Yes, i was suggesting OPINED but meant that that would mean the crossword setter hadn't defined it properly.
Has anyone else got this crossword as sometimes these are explained by the fact that the OP has got clues mixed up.
