Interesting.
I always thought it stood for holy.
I might admit I thought it was a letter that people just popped in to make it sound a bit less like swearing - I first heard in from Americans.

I thought it was "holy" too. I exclaimed Jesus H Christ earlier which gave rise to my question.

It was a one off slip of the tongue.
i thought it was just added so that it wasnt 'technically' blaspheming...as its not his proper name...
