What is word that means that something is generally believed but is not proven? I came up with apocryphal - but I believe there is another word in more common use.

Thanks Zacsmaster but the word I am looking for is not in your list. It is generally used in the context of "there is only ???? evidence that ghosts exist" In other words that such evidence is amassed by experience and word of mouth, not by scientific proof.
