Generally attributed to Abraham Lincoln during a debate with Stephen A. Douglas in Clinton, Illinois in 1858. Some dispute has arisen since the line, which sounds so like Lincoln, wasn't actually referenced in print until 1905. As it stands, this seems to still be the best source...
