Any Navy types tell me the procedure for receiving pay?

Is it salute with the right hand; receive pay in the left? And is there a connection, anyone know, with having an itch in the left hand which one rubs on wood? And what about having an itch in the right hand? Is that paying out?

Direct payment into the bank account these days!! However during my first year in the Navy in 74 and it was salute with the right and hold the cap out in the left whereupon said pay was stuffed into your hat! Dont know any connection to itchy hands though

Burnhal! Thanks, my old Dad was Navy ( a PO ) and we were trying ( Mum and I ) to remember what he used to say. Forgot about the 'off cap' bit !

Believe the itchy hand thing is separate to all this.
