ive always wondered where the phrase taking the micky comes from. ive thought that maybe it could be like rhyming slang, as in short for taking the mickey mouse. i have no idea what this could rhyme with, but there are other rhyming slang phrases with this sort of... thing. like are you having a bubble, short for are you having a bubble bath, rhyming slang for are you having a laugh. are you taking the mickey, short for are you taking the mickey mouse, rhyming slang for ???. lol im not sure at all about this theory, and i have nothing to base it on at all. does anyone know the real story behind taking the mickey?

This may be the explanation.
micturate means the same as urinate, so taking the mick is the same as taking the p**s

Click here for a much more likely derivation of 'take the P'. At least it is provided by the noted lexicographer and etymologist, Michael Quinion.
