I know they both refer to being thin in an attractive way, but just wondering if they at all have any mild differences in their meanings/implications?

not necessarily. They can both mean other things for example:

The team had a slim chance of winning -meaning small if any chance of winning
The candidate had a slender chance of getting the job meaning having little value, force, or justification

Well I mean specifically when talking about someone’s appearance are they exactly the same?
Slim is masculine or feminine, slender is used more often to describe a feminine figure.
For most of the population, I would imagine so - there's no huge degree of subtlety involved. I can't imagine a situation - in life, in a book, in a screenplay - where people would think, 'Oh, no, 'slim' was used - 'slender' would have been better.'
They do mean the same, basically. But I don’t think a woman would describe as ‘slender’. She’d say she was ‘quite slim’.
Very subtle difference
