prostitute is something of an insult. Sex worker is (so far) a fairly neutral job description that need not involve prostitution at all (strippers, for instance).
You shouldn't take everything you watch of Ricky Gervais to heart, spath. I don't suppose they really mind what you call them as long as you pay for their services.
Not that I know. Surely prostitution is a sub-set of sex working ?
My son works with an organisation which supports "working girls" and won't have the word prostitute said in his hearing.
Wonder if any of those 'working girls' he helps support belong to The English Collective of Prostitutes, founded 1975, maggiebee? To me the term 'sex-worker' is ambiguous - could mean a stripper, a pole dancer, etc. 'Prostitute' does what it says on the tin.
