Where I live at the moment is just a temporary stop-gap.
The other day I said to my son “but it’s turning out to be more temporary than I thought.”
He said “shouldn’t that be less temporary?”

I’ve been pondering this, and still can’t work out which is the correct expression!
Any thoughts?

depends what you mean....if you are staying longer than you expected its becoming less temporary; if your stay will be shorter than expected then its more temporary

OK. Thanks.
I'm staying longer than I thought.
Looks like my son was right.
less
Less. If you only intended to stay a short while it's temporary if it then becomes longer it's less temporary and more permanent.

I could see the argument for both but my natural interpretation is the more temporary means even quicker done with than was expected, less temporary means it's starting to look not very temporary at all.
