Neologism?
For when you try to prevent a minor catastrophe, and make it worse.

You knock your phone, calculator, cup etc. off the table. If left alone it will hit the carpeted floor and probably bounce. Instead you extend a limb in an ineffective attempt to catch it and by so doing push it towards the table leg on which it smashes.
This happens TOO OFTEN to have to explain like this - can we have a word that sums it all up?
No, not 'clumsy'.
Thanks,

I'll have a go at conjugating my new word: misachievement (noun)...

'Misachieve' = to not quite achieve something, to have a near miss. I'll have a go at conjugating my new word:
misachievement (noun)
misachieve (verb)
misachievable (adjective)
misachievely (adverb)
@Captain Spod

You Flamingoed up.

- it's a Red Dwarf reference and it will be 20 years old, soon. :-/

I would call it a mosaicism as it's something I;m really quite a master at.
Like the time I altered a shelf in the storeroom - a tiny wee job - the shelf unit then collapsed sideways, knocking off the wall and destroying a little metal cabinet that was only the area's buddy police radio transmitter.........oooh I was in bother.
So, mosaic, that would give us:
mosaicism (noun)
to mosaic (verb)
mosaicable (adjective)
mosaicably (adverb). The Oxford English Dictionary people might be interested.

Thanks, Captain Spod. I'll have a word with my government contacts about the 'recognise misachieve' mission.
