Jah is the God of Rastafarians.
he is/was the Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie, believed by Rastafarians to be Jah Rastafari, descendant of King David of Israel.

Jah is the shortened name of Jehovah or Yahweh. This is God's Personal Name and is therefore the name of God Almighty Jesus' heavenly father. This God is the maker of all things and therefore not excusive to any sect. Just ehose who worship him in spirit and truth (John 4:24) In the hebrew scriptures Jah is used many times and Hallelujah means praise Jah or praise God.

Jehovah is actually a form of Jupiter, which was the Roman name for God.  The Hebrew word for God was JHWH, which was interpreted by early biblical translators as Yahweh (Jahweh).

The Jamaicans got it from the bible I suppose.
