there's a boy from my high school (never knew him personally) who is about 15 who had brain and spinal cancer last year, but I think he recovered, but never quite fully or it might have been the chemo etc making him weak.

But a couple of days ago he had a stroke and is now paralysed and has been given a few more days to live.

I've never seen the school effected like this before, even when a teacher died (I didn't know him either, so not sure if he was very popular). There were assemblies for all the three lower school year groups but sixth formers didn't and i don't really want to ask what was said. My chemsitry teacher is the deputy head so probably told us the jist of it (as above), but after the assemblies, there were people (girls, boys and even a teacher) in the corridoors crying.

have you ever witnessed something similar? 9as in the people being effected not what is actually happening to him).

8-12-80 and 31-08-97 are two dates which I recall resulting in mass hysteria.
that's very sad, Molly.

2 students from my daughter's year at school (when they were in year 10) committed suicide, unconnected, 2 days apart. it was a terrible time for everyone involved, and those on the outskirts.
Everyone (with half a heart) is effected by children dying or being killed.

Adults are expected to die to a degree (well, the elderly) but with kids it's always seen as a waste of a life before it's started properly.
agree naz !!! Dates I will not forget..along with 9/11..
What happened on those dates Nazzy?

Molly- always seems worse, when it's someone young who's affected by the Big C.
Lennon, Diana
We all get to see it on TV, perhaps too regularly, and one gets the impression that the youngsters are hamming it up for the cameras. If, however, the school has a real community spirit its quite a natural thing to do for people to be sad at such a loss.
Lockerbie and Diana Boo...how quickly we forget......
Some quicker than others Murray ;-p
sorry naz ....tes lennon...L a few years later

Not all people are cold-hearted. Most feel love, empathy and compassion for another life.
I thought 8/12/80 was John Lennon, but could be wrong.
Lockerbie was '88
It's something that can happen in communites like schools Milly, even if you dont know the person they're part of the school, I saw it several times when I worked in the pits, everbody felt it when there was a fatality or major accident even if it wasn't your pit involved. I thinks it's often a case of "there but for fortune" and the realisation that these things can happen any time or at any age
consider myself corrected on that one!
Ahhh, couldn't think what they were. As you gathered, neither affected me all that much! LOL
Yes....My sons friend died in Blackpool 6 months ago. He was a very popular boy...pupils from all years were effected and still are.
